Superintendent's Welcome Back Letter
Dear Edgewater School District Parents and Guardians,
I hope you are all having a refreshing summer with family and friends. I am honored to be serving our team in my new role as superintendent, and am happy to welcome our two new school leaders to the Edgewater family: Mr. Raul Sandoval, principal of EVG School, and Mr. Chris Kirkby, principal of GW School.
We are excited about our curricular initiatives this year, including our new K-6 math program, GO Math, and our new partnership with Teachers College’s Reading and Writing Project for our K-6 language arts curriculum. Also, several of our teachers attended the STEM Institute sponsored by Bristol Meyers Squibb over the summer, and we are looking forward to the new science, math, and technology and engineering lessons for our students that will emerge out of that training.
The maintenance staff has been working hard to prepare the buildings for the arrival of students and staff. The George Washington School now has a fully operational generator and several rooms at the Eleanor Van Gelder School have received upgrades.
I invite you to join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), which allows the greatest amount of participation by parents in school activities. Also, be sure to register for e-blasts through our website by following the directions on our homepage at www.edgewaterschools.org.
We look forward to seeing you on the first day of school. May this school year be a positive one for your child – full of growth and learning.
Mrs. Kerry Postma, Principal of George Washington School, was named Superintendent effective July 1, 2014. She will continue to serve as GW Principal until Mr. Kirkby assumes the principal role on September 10, 2014.
