• Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I hope you have all enjoyed a refreshing summer with family and friends. This year, we welcome over 900 students to the district from diverse backgrounds. Within our student body, we have 35 languages spoken at home, with the most prevalent being English and Korean, followed by Japanese, Spanish and Russian.  We are proud to launch our new bilingual Korean program at GW School this year, for eligible students in Grades K and 1.  We have nearly 150 staff members in the district, including several new teachers.

Also, after two years of careful research from the district’s Science Curriculum Committee, the board has adopted a new science program, Pearson Interactive, for Grades K-6.  We are happy to continue our partnership with Teachers College for staff development in Reading and Writing Workshop at both schools, and we will be entering into our third year of using the GoMath curriculum in Grades K-6.  Our sixth grade one-to-one Chromebook initiative at EVG School was a great success last year due to the hard work of the teachers and staff.  We will continue that program in the 2016-2017 school year.  With support from the federal technology rebate program, we will also be upgrading the technology infrastructure in both schools beginning this year.  This upgrade will enable us to better serve the needs of students and staff as we move forward with 21st century learning, and increased digital devices in the classroom.

A new generator was installed over the summer at EVG School.  Also, the district tested its water in June, and we are happy to report that the water tested at acceptable levels at both schools. Plans for continued expansion to our facilities to accommodate the growing enrollment are currently being discussed by the Board of Education.

All of these initiatives and improvements are the result of incredible organization and collaboration of the administration, teachers, staff and community. Together, with the vision and support of the Edgewater Board of Education, the PTO and Edgewater Education Foundation, parents, community members, staff and students, we can and will provide our children with every opportunity to reach their full potential.  I am looking forward to another year of teamwork and student success in the Edgewater School District.
