Welcome to Miss Blank’s 6th Grade Language Arts Class
School phone #: 201-945-4106
Dear 6th Grade Families,
I am very excited to welcome your child to 6th Grade! My name is Naomi Blank and this is my 4th year at Eleanor Van Gelder School. I have been teaching in Bergen county for over 8 years. I graduated from George Mason University in 2010 with a B.A. in English, and two minors, in Electronic Journalism and Art History. I then returned to school and received a Masters in the Art of Teaching (M.A.T.) degree from Farleigh Dickinson University in 2013. Prior to joining the EVG community, I taught 6th grade Language Arts at Hackensack Middle School.
In order for your child to have a successful school year, please note that your child will most likely have homework every night from my class. We will be using the Reader's and Writer's Workshop. This will include at least 30 minutes of reading, along with a reading log to ensure that students are maintaining a good pace for their reading and learning. This reading log should be signed by a parent and will be collected as part of a homework grade. Students will also be responsible for completing an array of worksheets, assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects. Appropriate notice and in-depth guidelines will be provided, in order for your child to succeed and prosper. Guidelines and homework will be also be available to view on my website, in the Homework and Assignments tab. Most assignments will also be posted on Google Classroom. I set and maintain high expectations for myself and for students, and I expect students to come to class prepared and ready to put forth their best effort. I will be available for extra help after school and during lunchtime if necessary.
I am a firm believer in building strong relationships with students and their families. I am confident that students can be successful with the right support system. Your children and their academic and emotional success are my main priorities. Along with the academic components of class, I also hope to encourage students to be accountable and responsible for their work, speech, and actions. I am looking forward to providing a productive learning experience for your child. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns regarding your child. I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
