Dear Edgewater School Community,

Each year from September 15 to October 15, we join schools and communities across the country in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month provides us with a meaningful opportunity to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have enriched our nation and our community in countless ways.

In our schools, we are committed to creating learning experiences that highlight the voices, traditions, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino leaders past and present. Our classrooms will engage in activities and discussions that celebrate diversity and deepen understanding, while also encouraging students to appreciate the strength that comes from our differences.

We invite families to join us in this celebration by talking with your children about the importance of heritage and culture. Together, we can foster a school community where every student feels seen, valued, and inspired.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

With appreciation,

Dear Edgewater School Community,

Today, we pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation. While many of our students were not yet born, the impact of that day continues to shape the world we live in and reminds us of the importance of unity, resilience, and compassion.

For our youngest learners, the focus remains on the values of kindness, caring for one another, and being a good friend and citizen. For our older students, it is also an opportunity to learn about the bravery of first responders and the strength of communities coming together.

As a school district, we honor this day with age-appropriate learning experiences, moments of reflection, and opportunities to express gratitude for those who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.

I encourage families to take a few moments this evening to talk with your children about what this day means. These conversations, centered around hope, strength, and community, help ensure that future generations carry forward the lessons of September 11.

Thank you for your continued partnership in guiding our students to grow not only as learners, but as compassionate and responsible citizens.

With respect and remembrance,
Mr. Billy Cunningham
Superintendent of Schools

We are pleased to share that GW's Back to School Night was a great success! Thank you to all of the families who joined us in supporting a strong start to the school year. The evening provided a meaningful opportunity for parents and guardians to meet teachers, learn about classroom expectations, and strengthen the home–school partnership that is so important to our students’ success.

We are also proud to highlight the Caregiver Academy presentation, which launched an exciting new opportunity for family engagement in the Edgewater School District.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making George Washington School a place where every child can thrive. We look forward to building on this momentum throughout the year!

Warm regards,

Mr. Cunningham
